Welcome! In this post, I am going to discuss the best massage chairs. Massages provide some awesome benefits for our bodies. After sitting at my computer all day, tapping on a keyboard, my shoulders, neck, and back can get extremely cranky. I would love to have a massage to alleviate my discomfort.
Well, I am sure a lot of people can relate. A massage can be a great way to wind down and relax. The problem is, to be really effective, you should get massages on a regular basis to get the most benefit. 
Enter the massage chair! A massage chair will give you the benefit of massage, in the comfort of your own home or office. In this post, I will give you an overview of massage chairs, how they work, and will discuss some great options for purchasing your very own massage chair. So if you are in the market for a fantastic way to get rid of those aches and pains, please keep reading!
I am sure you have seen them in airports. I see them at the mall all the time. What a great invention! These chairs are full of features these days, to make your life just that much better. Massage chairs come in various shapes and sizes. Some vibrate which can be nice, and some are much more complex machines.
You can spend a lot of money on a massage chair, but I wanted to provide some of the more affordable options in this post. Granted, some of still expensive, so please keep that in mind as you read.
Massage chairs, in general, have some common components which I will discuss here. Please see my post here for a more detailed discussion on what to look for when you are in the market to purchase a massage chair.
Rollers – the rollers are what do all the dirty work and make you feel so good. The rollers are on a track and move to give you the massage. Some rollers are larger than others and will provide a more general massage, while some rollers are smaller for more fine-tuned massage.
Tracks – The track is what guides the rollers up and down your back. There are S-Track and L-Tracks. Basically, every chair has an S-Track. The S-Track follows the curve of your spine, thus an “S” shape and will have a range of motion that stops at about the lower back. L-Tracks are similar to the S-Track, but they are longer and form an “L” shape. These tracks have a longer range of motion from the neck all the way down to the hamstrings.
Dimensions – You will hear these different terms about massage chairs, including 2D, 3D, and even 4D
- With 2D, the rollers move up, down, left and right
- With 3D, you get an added dimension of in and out. So the rollers still move up, down, left, right, but now have the added benefit of adding more pressure to places that you need it but pushing out away from the track. This will help to give a deeper massage.
- 4D…really? Well, no, not really. These chairs basically adjust the speed of the rollers that you get with the 3D technology. I don’t want to spend a lot of time on this, but that’s the gist of it.
Feet – There are a couple of things to note here. A lot of massage chairs will use airbags to massage your feet. These airbags inflate and put downward pressure on your feet, which will contact with nodes under your feet. These nodes don’t move. These nodes don’t move. On the other hand, mechanical feet rollers will move and provide a really nice foot massage, just like the rollers do on your back. 
Zero gravity – Some chairs have zero gravity capabilities. This means the chair will recline far enough to distribute the user’s weight evenly across the chair, basically a fully reclined position. This allows for a more intense massage, whereas an upright position may not allow the same intensity as a reclined position.
Sensors – Some massage chairs will have a sensor that will scan your body for best results. If you are 5 feet tall, your orientation is different than someone 6 feet tall. The chair will figure this all out for you. This means it’s easy for different people to use.

• Some users have reported the pressure on the lower back can be intense and recommend using a thin pillow if needed.
