If your back hurts or your posture is just plain awful, welcome to the club.  I encourage you to keep reading my BetterBack review, and I will explain why this is a great posture corrector for back support.  BetterBack may be able to provide you with the natural pain relief you so desperately deserve.

Product: Better Back
Recommended: YES
Summary: BetterBack is a posture corrector and a great back support all in one handy pouch.  I recently purchased one for myself and I am very pleased with how it works.  Read on to see how you can benefit from BetterBack.

Katherine Krug is the Founder and CEO of BetterBack. She designed this product as a way to treat her sciatica pain. She was not having any success with other products on the market, so she took matters into her own hands.

I have been using this device for a while now for my own lower back pain, I suffer from sciatica, just like Katherine. I am excited to write a review about BetterBack because this is a remarkable posture corrector that provides excellent back support, something I really need.

I have also been dealing with tailbone pain lately, so I was anxious to give BetterBack a try.

I have a long history of back problems and have tried a lot of different treatment options, including cortisone shots, visits to the chiropractor, inversion tables (I do love my inversion table too), and surgery to name a few.

This doesn’t even include all of the painkillers I have been prescribed over the years.  So anytime there is a non-invasive, natural way to get back pain relief, I am all in.

So many people, myself included sit at a computer all day, every day. Mix in commuting to and from work, and voila, that’s a lot of sitting.  For someone like me, who already has back pain, this is not a good set of circumstances.

I find myself slouching at my desk at work, and at home, frequently catching myself in the act.  Usually, I pick my head up before it hits my desk, but not always LOL.  But seriously, it is so easy to slump when you sit in a chair for hours on end.  For me, I have to think about not rounding my shoulders and lower back continually.

What does proper posture look like?

There are so many things to remember when you are trying to sit up straight, and it can be very overwhelming.  Feet flat on the floor, keep your knees bent at a 90-degree angle, head up, shoulders back, and support for the curve in your back, just to name a few.  I am sure I missed something, but you get the idea.

I am uing my BetterBack posture corrector

I have used a variety of different back supports over the years, and those focus on the lumbar spine.  The great thing about BetterBack is it is designed to support your pelvis, which helps to provide low back support. BetterBack is the best back posture corrector I have found.

My pelvis has been a problem area for me for years, and that is part of the reason I think this support from BetterBack works well for me.  If you sit at a desk for long hours, this is definitely the way to go.  BetterBack says this device will make every chair ergonomic, and I agree.

What is BetterBack?

Before I made my purchase, I was a little confused, is this a back support, or a posture corrector? So I emailed the company.  The response was that BetterBack is a back support AND a posture corrector.

They also provided me with some more details, so here goes.  The device helps by stabilizing the pelvis, which in turn allows you to sit with a neutral pelvis.  All of this helps to restore the natural curve of the spine.

BetterBack is a back support that helps to retrain your posture muscles and also helps you to be aware of maintaining good posture.  The company says that in as little as 15 minutes per day, you can achieve excellent posture.

Sounds good to me, all I know is it is really comfortable and helps with my back pain when I sit.

I have been wearing mine probably 60 minutes per day just because it’s very comfortable and helps with back pain when I am sitting.  I also work out frequently, with a focus on my core strength, but I definitely think this product helps me with posture when I sit during the day. It really helps me sit up straight.

How does BetterBack work?

Over time, BetterBack helps to kind of reset your posture, so when you are standing or sitting, without BetterBack, your posture will improve.  The device will help to reinforce your good behavior.

BetterBack zips itself into a case, making the device super portable, and it even has a handle.

The device itself is a pretty simple design. The product itself works like this. There is a large back pad that rests nicely on your lower back.  You can move the pad wherever it feels best for you.

Attached to the back pad are two straps, one for each side of your body.  On the end of the straps are knee pads, which…you guessed it go around your knees.  Remember you are sitting down when using BetterBack, so your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle which makes it easy to hook the pads over your knees.

Then you pull the adjustable leg straps to stack your spine for perfect posture. You can play around with how snug you want the straps to be to get just the right fit.

Here is a handy instructional video that walks you through the whole process

BetterBack Sizes

BetterBack comes in a variety of sizes based on your waist size.

BetterBack Comparison Chart

  • Original – up to 36” waist
  • Plus – up to 42” waist
  • Plus+ – up to 55” waist

I have a 34-inch waist, and I ordered the Original, and I found my BetterBack true to size. This handy chart will also help.

BetterBack Upgrades

One additional item you can buy with your device, and I think this add value.

  • Healing Pearl Therapy Pack
This pack can be used as a hot or cold pack that fits into your BetterBack. Ice can help with inflammation from an acute injury, so this gives you a way to ice your back while you are using your back support.  The pack can also be used to heat your back, which a lot of people find to be helpful with back pain.

I just purchased the Original version by itself without any upgrades, and I think it is excellent. I do have an ice pack at home that I am very fond of, but I would be interested to see how the Healing Pearl Therapy Pack compares.

What do doctors say about BetterBack?

Customer Reviews

The customer reviews on the website are very positive, with over 80% of reviews being 5-star ratings.  As with any product in the back pain relief arena, there is no one size fits all solution, but overwhelmingly, people are pleased with their BetterBack.

Take it with you

BetterBack is very portable, and I love the fact that it zips up into a nice little travel pack. I keep mine in my backpack that way I can use it at work and bring it home each night.

You don’t have to have a bad back

Really, you don’t need to have back problems to use BetterBack.  This device can help with bad posture, which can lead to back problems.  It can also help break bad posture habits and reinforce good habits.  I think this is an excellent product that a lot of people can use and benefit from.

  • Easy to use
  • Very comfortable to wear

  • Helps to retrain your posture in as little as 15 minutes per day
  • 10-year warranty

  • The knee pads are soft

  • It can be a bit challenging to pack and zip back up, but not too bad

Conclusion: BetterBack Review – Great Posture Corrector for Back Support

I have really enjoyed using BetterBack, and I think a lot of people can benefit from it. We all tend to do so much sitting, and I, for one, cannot keep my posture perfectly in check all day long. BetterBack definitely helps with my sciatica when I am sitting down.

I also use a sit-stand workstation both at my office and my home office, so in addition to using BetterBack while sitting, I spend a lot of my day standing.  Standing is kind of a must for me.

If you are looking for a drug-free, non-invasive way to get some much-needed back pain relief, I recommend you give BetterBack a try.  My experience has been very positive.

  1. Oh wow. This is definitely something I would need. Since becoming a full time blogger, I am spending many hours behind my computer and my posture is not that good. I was wondering if there was something reliable and easy to use to correct my posture. I’ve searched online, but never seem to find anything worthy of my attention.

Betterback looks like something I would be willing to give a try. Pricing is more than fine and judging by reviews, people enjoyed using this posture corrector.

    • Hi, thanks for stopping by today.  I have had a great experience using BetterBack, and I think a lot of people can benefit.  I know all too well about spending way too much time at the computer, compound that with commuting, and that is a lot of sitting during the day.

I am glad you liked the review.  Please let me know if you have any questions, I would love to help if I can.

  2. This is a really cool product! I’m constantly checking myself for slouching in front of the computer, and I have the sciatica and lower back pain to prove it. This looks like it would be really helpful for that. I watched the how to video, and kept thinking it would also be really great for sports fans! Wouldn’t that be a relief, to have back support on hard stadium seats, without packing some huge stadium chair or other gadget?

    • I am always adjusting, straightening up my posture, there, just did it as I am standing at my desk 🙂

I think you are on to something, BetterBack would definitely be a great item for instead of a stadium chair.  I need to mention that in my review!

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate you leaving a comment.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

  3. WOW! this seems like something my husband need for his back problems. Can you wear it as many time as you want or is there a time where it should be wore? I know that everyone is different but in how much time would my husband see the result or improvement of his lower back? This is something that Im thinking about getting him. Look forward to your input.

    • I wear my BetterBack several times during the day for about 15 minutes at a time. I also have a stand-up desk, so when I take a break from standing, I sit and I wear the BetterBack. Everyone is going to be different, depending on the significance of your husbands back problems, so that is a tough question to answer about him specifically. BetterBack does have a 60-day guarantee, so if nothing else, you can order one and try it out and see how he likes it. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your support.

  5. Hi Steve, I’m really glad to read about your experience with BetterBack.  This sounds like something that would help me.  I’m like you, I have a tendency to slouch when I sit, and for me that bad habit sometimes carries over into my form in the gym; definitely not a good thing as it increases the risk of injury.

I like all the detail that you put into this.  So often it’s hard to find the information about how a product actually works, people just hype things up without getting into the specifics.  Thanks for describing the features so clearly, I appreciate it!

  6. Thank you Steve for this wonderful article on back support.

I have bought one called Backjoy for use at home doing computer work and also one for my car.

It’s indeed important to buy a back support to improve posture and prevent backpain.

Backpain is really something that is so painful that you can’t even perform normal tasks like walking and sitting down.

It is extremely difficult to live with backpain.

It’s not cheap but it’s worth the investment for the long term.

And I am very satisfied with the product I bought.

    Great post!

    • I agree with you Winson, a back support is worth the investment. You can train your body so that you practice better posture. Bad posture can lead to other problems, like back pain. I live with back pain and am really enjoying BetterBack. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  7. Hi, Steve.
Thanks for the review of Better Back. I too sit in front of my computer for 12 hours and have startrd getting backpain. Maybe due to my incorrect posture or long hours of sitting.
Your review at this time came as a very pleasing comfort because it is from a person who had real problem and reviewing for the sake of selling.
My small doubt – my mother has gone for both the knee replacement before five years, is it advised to be used by her also as she also suffers from back pain. What precautions need to be taken for straps for knee replaced patients.
    Warm Regards,

  8. Hi Steve,

This thing looks awesome! Although it’s gotten better through things like yoga and stretching, I usually have lower back issues of one kind or another from years of lifting and sports, particularly when sitting down. This looks like it would be perfect for me. I usually spend a lot of time on the computer working on my blog, which leaves my back feeling sore the next day. This looks like it would help tremendously. Can’t believe I haven’t heard of it before. I will definitely be looking to get this in the very near future. Thank you for the thorough review!!

  10. Great review! I’ve always been told I have terrible posture when sitting. So much that I try to continuously try to remind myself (in my head) 🙂 to SIT UP! Don’t Slouch! Fortunately, I don’t suffer from back pain yet. But this product seems to be a great way to prevent any future back pain and to correct my posture bad habits.

Thank you for sharing this information. I had no idea that such a product existed.

    Cheers!

    • Thanks, Bryan I appreciate your comment. I am definitely guilty of slouching and that is one reason I ordered the BetterBack. I have really taken a liking to it and it is very comfortable to wear. For me, it’s about training my body to practice good posture so far it is working well. Please let me know if you have any questions, I am happy to help.

  11. Hi Steve, thanks for taking the time to review the betterback posture corrector. By far the best review on the net and just what I was looking for. I’m looking for something to help out my girlfriend, she work in an office at a computer for 8 hours per day and is afraid of the problems bad posture will cause her in the future. The betterback seems like it could really help her. I have just one question:

As you said in the article that it can help in as little as 15 minutes per day and that you use it for around one hour a day. Is there anything to stop my girlfriend using it all day while at work or would that be bad!?

    thanks, Anthony

    • Hi Anthony, thanks for stopping by. She can use BetterBack as often as she wants. She can start with 15 minutes and go from there. If it’s comfortable and she wants to do more, go for it. It is recommended to start with 15 minutes, because if people are used to slumping, it can be a lot to handle in the beginning. Most important for anyone using the BetterBack is to listen to your body. The point is to re-train your body with proper posture so that when you are not wearing BetterBack your posture will be good.

Another word of advice is to get up at least once per hour and move your body, go for a little walk, or something. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks again.
