Bowflex has been designing innovative fitness equipment for many years, and the LateralX machines offer a unique and dynamic workout. Bowflex LateralX reviews

Bowflex has designed two models in the LateralX series of workout equipment, the LateralX LX3, and LX5 models. I will get into what each model offers a little bit later, and also provide links to my full review.

What makes the LaxteralX machines unique as you may have guessed from the name, is the lateral movement.  This side to side action adds a special element that traditional elliptical machines do not offer.  Moving laterally engages  more muscle groups and really increases the intensity of your workout

When I first stepped on a lateral movement machine, I didn’t really know what to expect.  I am in pretty good shape and have been working out on ellipticals for a long time.  Honestly the lateral movement kind of kicked my butt.

It took me a while to get used to working out this way, and I am glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried something new.

I have been dealing with back pain for about 20 years, and I am always on the lookout for low impact ways to workout and get my heart rate up.  These LateralX machines from Bowflex are a great addition to any exercise routine.  So, if you are like me and are in need of conditioning that is friendly for your body, I encourage you to take a more in-depth look at the LateralX series from Bowflex.

As I mentioned there are two models, well there is actually a third option as well, but I will get into that in a bit.

Bowflex LateralX LX3

This machine is the less expensive of the two models and offers a lot of bang for the buck.Bowflex LateralX LX3

Features of the LX3 include:

  • 7 workout programs
  • 8 resistance levels
  • 5-inch display
  • Media shelf for a tablet
  • Heart rate monitor built into the handgrips
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Fixed lateral range

Workout programs

There are seven programs built into the LX3 console, and they are super easy push-button operation.  Along with these integrated programs, you have the option to choose from eight levels of resistance.  With all of these options, you can stay engaged and will not get bored!

Handgrips

There are two sets of handlebars, on fixed and one that moves, just like a traditional elliptical machine.  The static handles have heart rate sensors built into them so you can monitor your fitness level as you go. The fixed handgrips also have integrated buttons that allow you to change the resistance level on the fly.

Connectivity

The LateralX LX3 is Bluetooth 4.0 compatible, and with the available LaxteralX App, you have access to 30 full-length workout videos.  So in addition to the pre-programmed workouts built into the console, you have the extra advantage of 30 more videos with the app.  All you need to do is download the app and set your tablet on the media shelf.  Then you are ready to go with these additional workout videos.

The LateralX LX3 is a great entry point, and you can really get a fantastic workout from this machine. For more information, read our full LateralX LX3 Review.

Bowflex LateralX LX5

The next step up in the LaxteralX series is the LX5.  You get a few additional features with this model so let’s get into that now.Bowflex LateralX LX5

Features of the LX5 include:

  • 10 workout programs
  • 10 levels of resistance
  • Bluetooth 4.0 compatible
  • Media shelf
  • Water bottle holder
  • Adjustable lateral range
  • 5 inch LCD display
  • 30 videos with the LateralX App
  • 4 sets of handgrips
  • Performance suspension pedals

Workout programs

With ten workout programs, you are sure to stay engaged and reach your fitness goals.  If that is not enough, ten resistance levels will get you there!

Handgrips

The LX5 has four different sets of handgrip options.  As with the LX3, there are a fixed set of handgrips that incorporate the heart rate sensors.  Then you have the upper handlebars that move back and forth to help you with a full-body workout.  On the upper handles, there are three sets of grip options, and this is where you get four total handlebar options.

Connectivity

The LX5 offers Bluetooth connectivity.  You can download the LateralX App, and this gives you access to 30 more full-length videos.  The media shelf works with your tablet so you can download the app, set up your tablet and you are set. The app allows you to track your progress and will also give you a month-long look to see how you are advancing.

You can also connect to your favorite fitness apps like Google Fit, Apple Health, and My Fitness Pal.

Adjustable lateral range

This is a feature only available on the LX5 which allows you to customize your workout even more.  You can adjust the side to side motion to fit your exercise routine.  With the LX3 the side to side range is fixed.  Anyway, this is a great option to enhance your workout experience.

With the LX5, the console is an upgraded version over the LX3, and you have more workout options as well as the ability to adjust the lateral range. For more on the LX5, read our full LateralX LX5 review.

Conclusion: Bowflex LateralX Reviews

The LateralX machines have a lot to offer with the dynamic side to side motion that a traditional elliptical does not have.  I can tell you for me the lateral movement is much more challenging than forward and backward alone.

I think these machines can add a lot to any workout regimen and help you reach your fitness goals.

I encourage you to read the complete reviews for each of the machines and see which one is right for you.
