In this review of the Exerpeutic 975SL, we will take a closer look at this hefty inversion table and see if it deserves your hard earned money.  There are a lot of exciting features with this table.  If you are ready to turn your world upside down (pun intended), please keep reading.

Exerpeutic 975SLThere are a lot of reasons why people suffer from back pain, and inversion therapy is one method of treatment people use.  Some people have tight lower back muscles that can handle a good stretch.

Other people have disc problems, like a herniated disc which is a more complicated issue.  Talk to your doctor and see if an inversion table is right for you.

Personally, I have chronic sciatica or pain that radiates down my leg, due to a herniated disc, so I use my inversion table for that reason.

Inversion tables literally take gravity and use it to your advantage.  The theory is that inverting allows for the spine to elongate, and the discs can decompress and recover.

If you are searching the internet for inversion tables, you will find there are a ton of options available.  It can be hard wading through all of the tables out there, so hopefully, I can make your search a little easier.  So, let’s get into this review.

Exerpeutic 975SL Features

Backrest

This heavy-duty unit doesn’t disappoint with a 2.3-inch thick memory foam backrest.  The backrest also includes a removable lumbar pillow that can be used for added traction to your lower back.  So the backrest on this unit is wide and stable for a variety of body types.

Ankle locking system

The locking system on an inversion table is what secures you to the table. The ankle locking system is very unique on this inversion table.  This is comprised of the locking handle, ankle cushions, and the footrest.  I will discuss these components individually below.

Exerpeutic 975SL Inversion Table FeaturesStarting with the footrest (or footbar), this is what you step onto when you first start using the inversion table. This is also what your feet rest on when you are done inverting.  The footrest is not adjustable on this unit but instead is fixed in one spot.  An adjustable height footrest is nice, but not a necessity.

Ankle cushions are the padding that holds your lower legs in place on the inversion table.  You want these to be comfy and provide a secure hold.

The ankle cushions on this unit are over-the-top. They use multiple, individual air chambers that are connected to each other, and this allows the air to flow evenly throughout the chambers.  This really helps to form fit to your legs and ankles providing a really comfortable hold.  I haven’t seen anything quite like this, and it’s very unique.  The chamber that sits on the top of your foot is exceptionally comfortable. I have to say that this is a very cool concept.

The locking handle utilizes a ratchet system which lets’ you get just the right fit. You want the ankle cushions to be snug on your leg, but not too tight, and this dual ratchet system allows for that perfect fit.

I also love the long locking/release handle on this table, let me tell you why. When I had a herniated disc several years ago, it was very painful to bend over. I was using my inversion table due to the herniated disc.

A long handle means you bend over less, and this can be crucial, as I learned.  So a long release handle really makes your life easier if you have back problems.  So add one to the plus column for this table.

User height adjustment

Adjusting for the correct height is pretty darn straightforward.  The height adjustment tube has marks on it, and you slide the tube to your height.  Now, you may have to make some slight adjustments since everyone has a different center of gravity.

Ultimately you should be able to rotate in and out of inversion using arm movements.  If you set the height adjustment tube to correspond to your height, and you can’t rotate freely, then you may need to adjust the height up or down to accommodate.  This may take a little trial and error, but you will get it pretty quickly.

There are foam covered handrails if you need to help yourself up until you find the right height, but again, once you have the table set up right, you should be good to go using your arms.

Inversion angle adjustment

Another advance with the Exerpeutic 975SL inversion table is how you adjust the inversion angle. The 975SL uses the i-Control disk brake system, another feature that is very unique.  This eliminates the need for a tether strap or preset angle adjustment holes.  You can set the inversion angle literally anywhere you want to with this technology, and it is super easily accessible right at your fingertips.  This i-Control system is another plus one for this table.

Assembly

Well, now for the fun part!  Yes, you will get to put your do-it-yourself skills to the test and assemble this inversion table.  The instructions are clear and easy to follow. If you have a knack for building things, you’ll have no trouble building your Exerpeutic 975SL.

One recommendation I do have, use a helper if possible.  Inversion table parts are heavy and awkward so having some help is a great option.  This is especially true if you have a bad back, or are injured.

Assembly is also available for an extra charge, but I think you can do this.

Storage

My experience with storing an inversion table is that they are not super easy to store.  My advice is to collapse the table and lean it against a wall.  I have been through the process of taking off the backrest, folding the table up, and trying to put it under the bed.  This is especially difficult if you are injured or have a back problem.

Since this model doesn’t fold completely flat, my recommendation is to set up shop in a room, like a basement, or office where you can have easy access to the table, collapse it and lean it against the wall.

Tip

The tip I would like to let you in on is to wear shoes when you invert.  Shoes help to cushion your feet, and it really makes a big difference.  Even with the incredible ankle cushion system that this table has, wearing shoes will make the experience so much more enjoyable.Wear shoes when you invert

I used to try going barefoot on an inversion table. As I mentioned earlier, I had a herniated disc, and I had trouble bending over.  It was painful to put shoes and socks on, so I tried barefoot. I quickly learned to have my wife help me with my shoes and that made inverting a lot more comfortable.

Conclusion: Exerpeutic 975SL

Pros

  • Ankle cushion technology
  • I-Control inversion angle adjustment
  • Very sturdy table holds users up to 350 pounds
  • Extended locking/release handle
  • Overall great value
  • Thick, comfortable backrest with a removable lumbar pillow

Cons

  • More expensive than some other models, but the technology is better
  • Very heavy table, but that is to be expected, it is a heavy duty table.

This table has some really great features, including the ankle cushion technology, i-Control inversion angle adjustment.  And, I think this table is well priced for the features it gives you.

The table is very sturdy and heavy duty.  Some people may not need a table this robust. Inversion tables are something you buy, and they last a long time.  I definitely think this table deserves a serious look, not just for larger people, but for anyone.  The ankle cushions alone are a very unique and exceptional addition.

  3. Hi Steve,
I’m new to this pain relief method, but you opened my eyes. My husband suffers from back pains after a car accident (more than 10 years, but still painful).
Maybe I should try this for him.
