Hello and thanks for stopping by today.  With this post, I will review the INNOVA ITM4800 Inversion Table.  If you are interested in inversion therapy as a way to help your back pain, then please keep reading.

I will cover the features this table has to offer, and one particular aspect that you don’t see with all inversion tables.

Now, inversion therapy has been around for a very long time, and I personally use an inversion table frequently to deal with chronic sciatica pain.  By inverting, you are allowing gravity to work in your favor.  This helps to lengthen your spine and gives the discs in your spine a chance to rejuvenate and recover.

If you suffer from back problems, whether it is tight muscles from sitting all day or a structural issue like a herniated disc, ask your doctor if an inversion table may be able to provide some pain relief and ultimately help you get back to the life you love.

Alright, let’s get into this inversion table from Innova!

Innova ITM4800 Features

Backrest

Innova ITM4800

The backrest, where you actually lay down, is a vinyl-covered foam pad for excellent comfort.  The kicker with

this backrest is the movable headrest.  There are three positions to choose from, so this helps with

different sizes of people, to find just the right fit.

This table comes with a unique surprise that is not available on most inversion tables.  A heat and massage lumbar support will enhance your inversion experience.  You can put this little slice of heaven right on your lower back to give you a gentle massage while you are hanging upside down.

You will need to make sure you position the table near an electrical outlet to take advantage of this feature. I think this is definitely an excellent addition to the inversion table.

Ankle locking system

The locking system is pretty standard for a basic model of an inversion table.

The footrest is not adjustable like some models are, but that’s to be expected with an entry-level table.

There are padded foam cups for the front and back of your ankle region.  These cups are what hold you in comfortably and securely in place while you are inverted.  Ankle holders also help to distribute your body weight evenly.

One thing I look for on an inversion table is a long, extended locking/release handle.  This model has a short release handle.  The benefit of the long handle is that this requires less bending over when you have finished your inversion session.

So, that being said, this unit has a short handle which requires you to bend over further when you are done.  This is tough if you are recovering from an injury, or have back problems that limit your ability to bend over.  I have been there, so I am speaking from experience.

If bending over is not an issue for you, then the short handle may work just fine.

User height adjustment

Adjusting the user height is pretty straightforward and user-friendly on most inversion tables, this one as well.  The height adjustment tube or shaft has one-inch incremental markings for different user heights.  You set the shaft to your height.

Now, since everyone has a different center of gravity, you may have to adjust the height setting to compensate.

Ultimately you should be able to raise and lower your body in and out of inversion by only moving your arms.  If you can’t do this, you should try adjusting the height setting.

In case you don’t have the table set up quite right, there are foam covered handles that you can grab onto and pull yourself upright.  These are really meant to help you up, but ultimately setting the table up correctly is the right way to go.

Inversion angle adjustment

The ITM4800 features a six-angle pin system to adjust the angle you are inverting.  These are preset angles at 15, 30, 45, 60, and 85 degrees.  The beautiful thing about this system is that it takes the guesswork out of setting the right angle.  You can just set it at whatever angle you want and go about your inverting.

The only downside to this type of selector system is that you are limited to these six preset angles.  If you want a 22.5-degree angle, you are out of luck.  This system will work for most people just fine.

I happen to be one of the folks who actually prefer a tether strap style, so I can literally set any angle I want. When I was recovering from an injury, I needed to be able to make minimal incremental adjustments as I was able to increase my angle.  I honestly couldn’t go from 15 to 30 degrees; I need to ease into it.

To each their own, I just wanted to point out the different ways to handle the inversion angle.

Assembly

Now for the fun part!  Yes, you will need to assemble the unit.  I can tell you from experience that building an inversion table is not a terrible feat, but it is super helpful if you have an assistant.  The parts are awkward and sometimes cumbersome, so a helper is really ideal.

Depending on how well you follow directions and if you know a wrench from a bolt, you can put this together in about an hour.

Or, you can pay for assembly if you choose to go that route.

Storage

This brings me to an interesting topic, storing an inversion table. The table does fold up, but storing it is another story.  I used to take my inversion table apart, the backrest off of the frame and put it under my bed.  With the help of my wife, we lifted one side of the bed to be able to slide the table and backrest underneath.  What a pain right?

So, now I just fold my table up and lean it against the wall.  An inversion table is a relatively heavy and awkwardly shaped piece of equipment to have to move around.  This is especially true if you have back problems and are experiencing pain.  The last thing you want to do is move a bulky, awkwardly shaped object.

Sorry to belabor this point, but storing an inversion table is a touchy topic for me.  I learned over the years to just fold it up and lean it against the wall in my office.  It’s best if you can have a space for the table where you use and store it, like a basement, or maybe an office area.

Helpful tip:

So, this is me helping.  Wearing shoes will make your inversion experience way better than trying to go barefoot, been there done that.  I used to try to utilize my table barefoot, putting towels around my feet and ankles for padding.  I tried the barefoot method because it hurt to bend over and I never wanted to put on shoes.

I highly recommend wearing a good pair of athletic shoes as this will make the experience a lot more comfortable.

Pros:

Innova ITM4800 Conclusion

I hope you have enjoyed this INNOVA ITM4800 Inversion Table review.  I think this table is well suited for someone who is new to inverting, or is just using it to recover from an injury.

There are not a lot of extras with this table, except the lumbar heat and massage feature, which I am not sure everyone will need. I do think it is a nice addition, but you are paying a little extra for that.

This is a pretty solid entry-level table that will provide the primary function that an inversion table gives you.  If you want more features, you will want to try a different model.

If you are interested please check out my post with other inversion table options.  There is a lot to choose from.

If you have any questions or comments, please leave them below, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

As always, I want to thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by.

  2. Thanks for some great information! To be honest, I hadn’t considered an inversion table for my back pain but you’ve peeked my interest! Do you have a recommendation for someone who has never used one?

  3. Great article!

I really need to look into something for my lower back. I am always sitting but do try to make it a habit of getting up and walking around for awhile and take a few breaks away from the screen to get the body flowing again.

The age is catching up to me *cough* 30 but I have always had lower back issues and use different methods to help with the pain.

Bookmarked for sure. Something I will be looking into for sure!

    • Thanks Brandon, I appreciate you stopping by. Walking is a great way to help lower back pain. I know we all sit so much these days, it’s easy to just get in the habit of not getting up to move around. An inversion table can be an effective way to stretch out your back. Let me know if you have any questions, I am here to help.

  4. Hi Steve, I am really considering buying the Innova ITM4800 but am concerned about storage. I know it folds but is still bulky. Do you know of another inversion table that is just as good but not as bulky to store? Or is that the nature of the beast?

    Reply
    • Yes, unfortunately storing an inversion table is not the easiest thing to do. As you said, it’s kind of the nature of the beast. I used to try to fold my table up and take the backrest off and store it under my bed. What a pain, literally, especially with a bad back. So, these days, I collapse my table and just lean it against the wall in my bedroom. Mostly, my wife wanted it out of the way, but once she understood the challenge of storing it under the bed, she was content with leaning in the corner.

Also, unless you are absolutely set on this Innova ITM4800, you might consider taking a look at the Ironman Gravity. The Ironman model has the tether strap, so unlimited inversion angles, and also has the longer locking/release handle. Ironman is a bit more expensive, but I think these two features are important.

Anyway, best of luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
