The Chirp Wheel Plus is the only plexus wheel model now sold by Chirp.
Welcome to our Chirp Wheel review. I am always on the lookout for an effective way to get rid of back pain without expensive trips to the doctor or taking pain medication and I decided to give the Chirp Wheel Plus (formerly Plexus Wheel) a try.
When researching back pain relief solutions, I was specifically looking for something that would address lower back muscle tightness, sciatica, back muscle spasms and chronic lower back pain.
In addition to relieving back pain, the Chirp Plexus Wheel can also be used for increasing flexibility and mobility, correcting poor posture and strengthening core muscles.

What is the Chirp Plexus Wheel Plus? Chirp Wheel?
Chirp Wheel Plus is a yoga wheel available in three individual sizes. Yoga wheels are used for back pain relief, whether upper back, middle back or lower back pain.
The design of the product itself is simple; the core of the wheel is made of solid plastic and is covered with 20mm padding. The wheel is soft, yet firm for your specific pressure points, providing a 4-way stretch to open up your back.
What makes this plexus wheel different from other yoga wheels? The Chirp Wheel has a unique channel that runs along the middle of the wheel. This channel is specifically designed to fit your spine. The channel allows the wheel to focus on massaging muscles around the spine while not putting direct pressure on spinal discs or the spine itself.
Three sizes for back pain relief fit your needs
The Chirp yoga wheel has three different sizes available. Each size is designed for a different purpose.
- The 12” wheel is for gentle pressure
- The 10” wheel provides medium pressure
- The 6” wheel is designed for deep tissue pressure
With these different size options, you can customize the amount of pressure you are applying while you are rolling. You have the opportunity to purchase these wheels individually or as a complete set.
Putting the Chirp Wheel to the test
My hope was that the Chirp Wheel would help with not only back pain, but also to roll out my tight, sore muscles. To put the Plexus Wheel to the test I ordered the 3-pack which includes all three yoga wheel sizes.
In this review I’ll give you an in-depth look at this back pain relief yoga wheel and help you decide if it’s worth your hard-earned money. Chirp claims that its Plexus Wheel is 97% effective for their customers. I put it to the test to find out if it really works.
I have been suffering from back problems for many years and have tried just about everything out there, surgery, injections, and painkillers. If there is a product I can use that will offer me some help I am certainly willing to give it a try.

Plexus Wheel Plus and Chirp Wheel Plus
There’s often confusion about the name of this product. Plexus Wheel, Plexus Wheel Plus and Plexus Wheel Sport where the company’s original yoga wheels. After a company and product rebranding, a new name emerged: the Chirp Wheel+. Our review of the Chirp Wheel reflects the new name, but essentially the same product.
The non-plus wheel and sport have both been retired.
How to use the Chirp Wheel Plus
Using the wheel is pretty darn easy. Hang in there, and I will share a couple of different ways to use the wheel to get the best results.
First off, if you have never used a wheel before, I recommend you check with your doctor.
Start while you are standing upright, using the wheel against a wall. At this point, it doesn’t really matter which size wheel you are using, just put the wheel between your back and wall, and roll it up and down to get the feel of it.
Using the wheel against the wall will give you the least amount of pressure and really gives you a good sense of how to use the wheel. As you progress, you can move to the floor where you will be applying more pressure.
When you are using the Chirp Wheel Plus on the floor, your body weight will allow you to use more pressure. As I mentioned, each uniquely sized wheel gives you different amounts of pressure as well. The twelve-inch wheel provides gentle pressure whereas the small wheel is more aggressive.
You will have to find what works for you as far as how aggressive you want or need to be. So, just take it slow and work out those knots.
Other ways to use this yoga wheel
The small wheel can be used as back support to help with posture while you are sitting. This offers substantial back support and will not wear down like more traditional foam back supports do over time.
Chirp’s plexus Wheel Plus vs. a foam roller
How does it compare to a foam roller? Using a foam roller and a wheel are very similar in concept, but these two products are pretty different. Typical foam rollers are longer, and the foam tends to break down and soften over time.
When I try to get in between my shoulder blades with a foam roller, it is not an easy thing to do since it’s not really designed for that purpose. I end up trying to balance myself on my back with the foam roller running the long way down the middle of my back. I have fallen off of more than one foam roller trying to get the tucked away knot in my back.
That is where the Chirp Wheel Plus certainly has a decided advantage over a foam roller. The wheel is a lot more nimble, and you can roll those hard to reach areas that a foam roller just can’t get reach.
Another critical difference is durability; the hard plastic core of the Plexus wheel will not lose its shape or integrity over time. Chirp offers a 10-year warranty on its wheels, so they are built to last.
Compared to a foam roller, the Chirp Wheel Plus has few decided advantages:
- You can relief back pain in hard to reach places
- The wheel’s unique channel keeps pressure off spinal discs
- The hard plastic core will remain firm over time
- The wheel is stable when reaching difficult areas compared to using a foam roller
Other yoga wheels
There are many other yoga wheels on the market. We can’t say we’ve tried them all, but we have tried many back relief products. What we can say is the the Plexus Wheel is well made, comes with a generous 60-day return policy and a 10-year warranty.
Chirp Plexus Wheel+ Benefits
The Plexus Wheel+ from Chirp is designed for people with back and neck pain. The soft padded exterior and spinal canal are great for a full backstretch. The unique design is specially made for stretching the muscles surrounding the spine, and it is made to get in between your shoulder blades.
If you have tight, sore muscles from working out, or if you sit in a cubicle all day and need to stretch out your back, the Plexus Wheel Plus is an excellent option for you.
At the end of the day, you can use the wheel for recovery and pain relief.
The fine folks at Chirp really want you to be happy with your purchase, so much so that they offer a 60-day trial on their products. If you are not satisfied, simply return it for a replacement or refund.
Other great reasons to order Chirp’s plexus wheel are:
- Your order may qualify for free shipping
- 10-year warranty
- 60-day trial
Chirp does highly encourage you to use the wheel for at least 30 days before returning it, here is why. During the first 30 days, your body is going through some correction as you start to use the wheel. You may experience some mild soreness during this time.
After the initial 30 days, Chirp explains that you will experience less pain and be able to spend more time doing stuff without discomfort. So it can take about 30 days to work the kinks out and get properly aligned.
When I contacted Chirp customer service with some questions, the representative responded quickly and was very helpful.
Does the Chirp Wheel Plus Work for back pain relief?
Yes. After long term use of the Chirp Wheel, I have found it a great way to relieve lower back pain. If you sit behind a desk a lot during the day and need to decompress or if you are looking to roll out sore muscles in your back the Plexus Wheel Plus is a great option.
If you are looking for an effective way to roll your back and neck, the Plexus Wheel+ is worth your consideration. The company really stands behind their products, and you can’t go wrong with the 60-day return policy.
I have tried foam rollers, tennis balls, lacrosse balls, even PVC pipe to roll out. The thing I really like about how this wheel is designed is you can use it on hard surfaces, like wood or tile floors, or on the carpet.
When I need a deeper roll than I was getting with a foam roller, I have used a piece of PVC pipe. The problem with a harder roller, like PVC pipe, is it slides all over the place on hard floors and carpet,
Tennis and lacrosse balls allow you to work challenging to reach areas, but it takes a long time to roll a large area. The Plexus Wheel Plus from Chirp is a great way to roll tight muscles and to decompress after a long day of sitting.
More about my plexus wheel experience
I tried all three of the wheels, but I was mostly interested in rolling out my tight muscles in my lower body with this wheel. My hips, glutes, low back and hamstrings need some work. While I used all three yoga wheel sizes, the small wheel is what I found myself using the most.
As I mentioned, I have tried a hard plastic pipe and tennis balls. The Chirp Plexus Wheel+ is great for my problem areas that contribute to back pain.
I like the wheel better than PVC, because it is not as hard, and it doesn’t slide around, yet it works deeper than a traditional foam roller. The wheel allows me to cover more area than a tennis ball.
The core has more give to it than I was expecting, so it’s not as hard as 4 inch PVC pipe for example. The padding is quite a bit softer than I was expecting.
This Chirp plexus wheel is definitely more comfortable to roll out tight muscles than other alternatives I’ve tried (including everything from foam rollers and a tennis ball to plastic pipe and tubing).
I feel like this hits my pressure points better than a traditional foam roller and it is really easy to use. I recommend you speak to your doctor before giving it a shot if you are dealing with back problems. Heck, if you don’t think it works, return it within 60 days and it’s no financial risk.
