Welcome to my Chirp Plexus Wheel+ Plus review.  I am always on the lookout for an effective way to get rid of back pain without expensive trips to the doctor or taking pain medication and I decided to give the Plexus Wheel Plus a try.Chirp Plexus Wheel Plus 3 pack

I was curious to see if this would help with not only back pain, but also to roll out my tight, sore muscles, so I ordered a 3-pack for myself.  My primary point of emphasis was on the smallest wheel, given my lower body is my problem area.

Today I will give you an in-depth look at this back pain relief tool and help you decide if it’s worth your hard-earned money.

Chirp claims that the Plexus Wheel is 97% effective for their customers, so I put it to the test to find out if this thing really works.

I have been suffering from back problems for many years and have tried just about everything out there, surgery, injections, and painkillers.  If there is a product I can use that will offer me some help I am certainly willing to give it a try.

Summary: This is an innovative and fun way to help relieve back pain.  The wheel is designed to stretch the muscles around your spine using a canal that will protect your spine.  Check out the Plexus Wheel+ from Chirp.

What is Plexus Chirp Wheel Plus?

The design is pretty basic; the core of the wheel is made of solid plastic and is covered with 20mm padding. The wheel is soft, yet firm for your specific pressure points, providing a 4-way stretch to open up your back.

There is a channel that runs along the middle of the wheel, and this is specifically designed to fit around your spine.  The wheel is 5 inches wide to fit in between your shoulder blades.

This patented design focuses on massaging the muscles around your spine and does not put pressure directly on your spine.

Three sizes to fit your needs

Chirp has three different sizes available, and each is designed for a different purpose.

  • The 12” wheel is for gentle pressure
  • The 10” wheel provides medium pressure
  • The 6” wheel is designed for deep tissue pressure

With these different size options, you can customize the amount of pressure you are applying while you are rolling.  You have the opportunity to purchase these wheels individually, for instance, if you only want just the six-inch wheel or you can buy them as a complete set.

How to use the Plexus Wheel Plus

Using the Plexus Wheel Plus is pretty darn easy. Hang in there, and I will share a couple of different ways to use the wheel to get the best results.

First off, if you have never used a wheel before, I recommend you check with your doctor.

Start while you are standing upright, using the wheel against a wall.  At this point, it doesn’t really matter which size wheel you are using, just put the wheel between your back and wall, and roll it up and down to get the feel of it.

Using the wheel against the wall will give you the least amount of pressure and really gives you a good sense of how to use the wheel.  As you progress, you can move to the floor where you will be applying more pressure.

When you are using the Plexus Wheel Plus on the floor, your body weight will allow you to use more pressure. As I mentioned, each uniquely sized wheel gives you different amounts of pressure as well.  The twelve-inch wheel provides gentle pressure whereas the small wheel is more aggressive.

You will have to find what works for you as far as how aggressive you want or need to be.  So, just take it slow and work out those knots.

Other ways to use the wheel

The small wheel can be used as back support to help with posture while you are sitting.  This offers substantial back support and will not wear down like more traditional foam back supports do over time.

Plexus Wheel Sport vs. Chirp Wheel Plus

Editorial Update: The Plexus Wheel Sport is no longer available.

You can see my Plexus Wheel Sport review here.  There are some notable differences between the two options, and I will touch on those now.

The Sport wheel has a smooth surface and does not have a dedicated spinal channel that is available on the Plus model.  The Sport model also has 6mm (about a ¼ inch) of padding whereas the Plus offers 20mm (about a ¾ inch).

At the end of the day, the Plexus Wheel+ has more padding and incorporates the spinal canal.  The Sport model is more firm to target deep knots, to focus on active recovery for muscle groups like glutes, hamstrings, and calves.

The Plexus Wheel Sport is more designed for direct pressure, recovery and myofascial release, the Plexus Wheel+ is explicitly designed for neck and back pain.

Plexus Wheel Plus vs. a foam roller

Using a foam roller and a wheel are very similar in concept, but these two products are pretty different.  Typical foam rollers are longer, and the foam tends to break down and soften over time.

When I try to get in between my shoulder blades with a foam roller, it is not an easy thing to do since it’s not really designed for that purpose.  I end up trying to balance myself on my back with the foam roller running the long way down the middle of my back.  I have fallen off of more than one foam roller trying to get the tucked away knot in my back.

That is where the Plexus Wheel Plus certainly has a decided advantage over a foam roller.  The wheel is a lot more nimble, and you can roll those hard to reach areas that a foam roller just can’t get to.

Another critical difference is durability; the hard plastic core of the Plexus wheel will not lose its shape or integrity over time.  Chirp offers a 10-year warranty on its wheels, so they are built to last.

Chirp Plexus Wheel+ Benefits

The Plexus Wheel+ from Chirp is designed for people with back and neck pain.  The soft padded exterior and spinal canal are great for a full backstretch.  The unique design is specially made for stretching the muscles surrounding the spine, and it is made to get in between your shoulder blades.

If you have tight, sore muscles from working out, or if you sit in a cubicle all day and need to stretch out your back, the Plexus Wheel Plus is an excellent option for you.

At the end of the day, you can use the wheel for recovery and pain relief.

Ordering your Chirp product

The fine folks at Chirp really want you to be happy with your purchase, so much so that they offer a 60-day trial on their products.  If you are not satisfied, simply return it for a replacement or refund.

Other great reasons to order a Plexus Wheel are:

  • Your order may qualify for free shipping
  • 10-year warranty
  • 60-day trial

Chirp does highly encourage you to use the wheel for at least 30 days before returning it, here is why.  During the first 30 days, your body is going through some correction as you start to use the wheel.  You may experience some mild soreness during this time.

After the initial 30 days, Chirp explains that you will experience less pain and be able to spend more time doing stuff without discomfort. So it can take about 30 days to work the kinks out and get properly aligned.

Customer support

When I contacted Chirp customer service with some questions, the representative responded quickly and was very helpful.

My experience

I tried all three of the wheels, but I was mostly interested in rolling out my tight muscles in my lower body with this wheel.  My hips, glutes, low back and hamstrings need some work. Given this, the small wheel is what I focused on using.

As I mentioned, I have tried a hard plastic pipe and tennis balls.  The Plexus Wheel+ is great for my problem areas that contribute to back pain.

I like the wheel better than PVC, because it is not as hard, and it doesn’t slide around, yet it works deeper than a traditional foam roller.  The wheel allows me to cover more area than a tennis ball.

The core has more give to it than I was expecting, so it’s not as hard as 4 inch PVC pipe for example.  The padding is quite a bit softer than I was expecting.  This is definitely more comfortable to roll out tight muscles than with plastic pipe or tubing.

I feel like this hits my pressure points better than a traditional foam roller and it is really easy to use. I recommend you speak to your doctor before giving it a shot if you are dealing with back problems.  Heck, if you don’t think it works, return it within 60 days and it’s no financial risk.

Conclusion: Plexus Wheel Plus Review

If you are looking for an effective way to roll your back and neck, I think the Plexus Wheel+ is worth a shot.  The company really stands behind their products, and you can’t go wrong with the 60-day return policy.

If you sit behind a desk a lot during the day and need to decompress or if you are looking to roll out sore muscles in your back the Plexus Wheel Plus is a great option.

Compared to a foam roller, these wheels have few decided advantages:

  • You can roll hard to reach places given the unique 5-inch wide wheel design
  • The hard plastic core will remain firm over time
  • The wheel is stable when reaching difficult areas compared to using a foam roller the long way

I have tried foam rollers, tennis balls, lacrosse balls, even PVC pipe to roll out. The thing I really like about how this wheel is designed is you can use it on hard surfaces, like wood or tile floors, or on the carpet.

When I need a deeper roll than I was getting with a foam roller, I have used a piece of PVC pipe.  The problem with a harder roller, like PVC pipe, is it slides all over the place on hard floors and carpet,

Tennis and lacrosse balls allow you to work challenging to reach areas, but it takes a long time to roll a large area.  The Plexus Wheel Plus from Chirp is a great way to roll tight muscles and to decompress after a long day of sitting.

  1. Wow, I hadn’t heard of this device / devices, but the Plexus Wheel seems like an interesting tool to fight back pain. A claim of 97% effective rate is very attention-getting, and the 100 day return policy helps to take away the concerns that you’d be stuck with something if it wasn’t effective. Thanks for sharing your 9 / 10 experience with the small plexus wheel!

  2. Probably one of the best investments I have made by purchasing this amazing equipment I love the 3 levels of stretch intensity for my back. It really does help eliminate back pain and really gets in there to stretch it out, I thought I wouldn’t be able to stretch my back and now i’m able to use the largest one and it’s indeed amazing.

  3. Excellent review you have up here concerning the plexus wheels plus products. Wow! This would be so helpful for my uncle. He has a backpain frequently since he got into an accident some years back. Just like you he had trued everything but not working well for him. Definitely, he would be more than willing to give this products a trial. Thanks so much for this. I think getting the three together would be more helpful than getting just one.

  4. This Plexus wheel roller is really awesome. I usually have occasional back pains from time to time due to the kind of work I do. I usesome supplements but they’re not effective. This looks more like a fun way to get rid of the pain. Since there are three different types, it’ll be easy for me choose one for what I want. Great post here.

  5. I’m ready for anything that helps wwith back pain!
I’m not familiar with the Chirp Plexus Wheel.
But I’m not in favor of medication either.
At first I wasn’t sure how these wheels would work for back pain.
But after watching the video I understand!
This is cool and makes sense. This is like having your own massage!
I like the fact that you can use it for other areas of your body too.
Does the wheel withstand a lot of force against it?

  7. Hi Steve – thanks for doing such a thorough review. I have a foam roller and while it certainly helps me with some areas, you are absolutely right that foam rollers aren’t ideal for getting between the shoulder blades and other hard-to-reach spots. Sometimes it feels like the roller is hitting my vertebrae more than the muscles on either side. The spine channel on the Plexus Wheel Plus sounds like it would help with that, so I’m thinking I may try this out. Thanks again.
